Das ber\u00fchmte Diktum ihres Auftraggebers, sie enthalte \u201egewaltig viele Noten, lieber Mozart\u201c zeigt an, dass selbst der ge\u00fcbte H\u00f6rer Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts ein so reichhaltiges Werk nicht gewohnt war. Es war Kaiser Joseph II., der Mozart den Auftrag gegeben hatte, eine deutschsprachige Oper f\u00fcr sein Nationalsingspiel zu schreiben. Gem\u00e4\u00df dem F\u00fcrstenspiegel wollte sich Joseph II. zuallererst selbst in dem aufgekl\u00e4rten, gnadenreichen Herrscher, als der sich Bassa Selim entpuppt, erkennen. Belmonte ist ein spanischer Edelmann, der seine bei einem Piratenangriff geraubte und an den Bassa Selim verkaufte Geliebte Konstanze zu befreien versucht, die samt treuer Dienerschaft im Mohrenland gefangen ist. Der Entf\u00fchrungsversuch scheitert an der \u00fcbersch\u00e4tzten Wirksamkeit zypriotischen Weins \u2013 der Aufseher Osmin vertr\u00e4gt den Alkohol besser als erhofft\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">T\u00fcrkenst\u00fccke mit Lokalkolorit waren 1782 in Wien gro\u00df in Mode. Mozart bediente die zeitgen\u00f6ssischen Erwartungen an orientalisches Flair, das die Oper in Janitscharenmusik verstr\u00f6mt. Die Kulturen sind einander jedoch weniger fremd, als es auf den ersten Blick scheint. Das soziale Gef\u00e4lle aus einem Diener (Pedrillo\/Osmin) und seinem Herrn (Belmonte\/Bassa Selim) erweist sich als erstaunlich austauschbar. Mozart bringt seine Figuren geh\u00f6rig durcheinander und ersch\u00fcttert sie in ihren Gewissheiten.
