Dans Orlando Paladino, Joseph Haydn semble se hasarder entre le buffa et le seria. Et dans l\u2019interpr\u00e9tation audacieuse qu\u2019en a propos\u00e9e l\u2019Op\u00e9ra de Fribourg jeudi soir sur la sc\u00e8ne d\u2019Equilibre, la m\u00eame h\u00e9sitation \u00e9tait patente, presque d\u00e9concertante, entre la gaudriole et l\u2019\u00e9panchement sentimental, entre la profondeur psychologique et la d\u00e9sinvolture divertissante.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On commence tout d\u2019abord par en rire, alors que plusieurs personnages font de comiques entr\u00e9es en sc\u00e8ne. Le Licone ing\u00e9nu du baryton-basse fribourgeois <strong>Ren\u00e9 Perler<\/strong> dialogue avec la soprano lausannoise <strong>Marie Lys<\/strong>, magnifique de pr\u00e9cision mutine en Eurilla. Sur un improbable destrier d\u00e9barque ensuite le fort bien nomm\u00e9 Rodomonte, emp\u00eatr\u00e9 dans les ferrailleries impossibles de son costume grandiloquent. Enfin, voil\u00e0 ce couple qui s\u2019aime \u00e0 s\u2019en \u00e9poumoner, et cette f\u00e9e qui multipliera les apparitions en Deus ex machina pour les sauver de tout p\u00e9ril. Comique de situation, fi\u00e8res bravades et retours de flamme \u2013 on s\u2019amuse un peu, en attendant que l\u2019Orchestre de chambre fribourgeois dirig\u00e9 par <strong>Laurent Gendre<\/strong> parvienne \u00e0 une v\u00e9ritable fusion dans ses cordes, trouve son rythme pour accompagner cette distribution in\u00e9gale, dont les chanteurs s\u2019av\u00e8rent parfois plus press\u00e9s que la musique.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Un h\u00e9ros magn\u00e9tique<\/h6>\n<div style=\"width: 654px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.laliberte.ch\/media\/image\/18\/normal\/asset-version-9b3a116ddc-78438.jpg\" width=\"644\" height=\"379\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u00a9 Alain Wicht<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Puis Orlando est arriv\u00e9. H\u00e2ve, puissant, magn\u00e9tique. Intense rayonnement de ce regard cern\u00e9 de folie. Timbre de m\u00e9tal froid, le t\u00e9nor argentin <strong>Carlos Natale<\/strong> conf\u00e8re au personnage \u00e9ponyme une stupeur rageuse d\u2019une force telle qu\u2019on en vient \u00e0 oublier ses quelques fragilit\u00e9s dans l\u2019aigu. Excellent acteur, il investit l\u2019espace, et l\u2019on comprend que le rire n\u2019est pas tout, que Haydn n\u2019a pas fait de son op\u00e9ra un dramma eroicomico pour rien.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Se met alors en place une alternance efficace de parenth\u00e8ses bouffonnes et d\u2019airs de caract\u00e8re destin\u00e9s \u00e0 faire progresser l\u2019action. Mais comme celle-ci est bas\u00e9e sur un livret aussi abscons qu\u2019invraisemblable, on en vient rapidement \u00e0 se d\u00e9sint\u00e9resser des motivations des personnages pour se raccrocher \u00e0 l\u2019amour du couple form\u00e9 par Angelica et Medoro. Le t\u00e9nor <strong>\u03a7\u03c1\u03ae\u03c3\u03c4\u03bf\u03c2 \u039a\u03b5\u03c7\u03c1\u03ae\u03c2<\/strong> met certes beaucoup de sensibilit\u00e9 pour r\u00e9pondre au vibrato un peu flottant de la soprano <strong>Rosaria Angotti<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Malheureusement, difficile de croire \u00e0 cette passion quand elle se partage entre un enturbann\u00e9 loufoque accoutr\u00e9 d\u2019un pyjama bleu layette et une mijaur\u00e9e caricatur\u00e9e en froufrous roses. On sourit plut\u00f4t, tout comme on s\u2019\u00e9merveille des pantalonnades de l\u2019\u00e9cuyer replet camp\u00e9 par le t\u00e9nor portugais <strong>Alberto Sousa<\/strong>, r\u00e9jouissante pr\u00e9figuration du Leporello de Don Giovanni.<\/p>\n<h6 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mise en espace inventive<\/h6>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La mise en sc\u00e8ne de <strong>C\u00e9dric Dorier<\/strong> porte la trace de cette ambigu\u00eft\u00e9, faite de blocs de bois clair aux contours vaguement m\u00e9di\u00e9vaux qui \u00e9voluent, selon les tableaux, entre sobri\u00e9t\u00e9 assum\u00e9e et kitscherie d\u00e9goulinante. On peut regretter cette tendance \u00e0 toujours forcer le trait o\u00f9 le tragicomique se vautre dans le vaudeville, le f\u00e9erique devient burlesque tandis que le burlesque tourne au grotesque.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reste que cette mise en espace originale et inventive rend honneur \u00e0 cette musique travers\u00e9e, elle aussi, de puissants contrastes. Ainsi, au dernier acte, tout s\u2019ouvre enfin: le paladin Orlando chante, absent \u00e0 lui-m\u00eame, prostr\u00e9 sur les rivages de la folie tandis que la f\u00eate collective se superpose \u00e0 son h\u00e9b\u00e9tude silencieuse.
